Hugo graduated from Durham University with a first class degree in Physics. He started his career as a research physicist with GEC Hirst Research Laboratories but soon joined Andersen Consulting, a leading business and technology consulting firm, in 1985. He became a partner in the 1990s and the company was floated on the New York Stock Exchange in 2001 under name Accenture. Hugo specialised in running and advising on the implementation of large infrastructural projects. In 2009 Hugo was elected as the chairman of the UK Management Consultancies Association, the representative trade body in the UK and worked with government on issues affecting the industry. In 2010 Hugo left Accenture and rode motorbikes across southern Africa and India before buying Cerrig Granite & Slate. He has worked in the stone industry ever since, building Cerrig back to profitability.
Ian has worked in the stone industry from the age of 20 when his promising rugby career was brought to a premature end playing against Argentina. He initially worked in slate quarries where he started on the rock face and ultimately took roles including logistics manager and technical sales manager with Alfred McAlpine. In 2001 he joined Cerrig Granite & Slate Ltd where he has taken roles as production director and as sales director. When Hugo bought the company in 2010, Ian became a joint shareholder with Hugo and they have worked together to change the focus and profitability of the company.
Ian brings to Recolite a wealth of experience of the stone industry from both a production and sales perspective,. He is a well known figure in the British stone industry and he is probably one of the leading practical experts in stone cladding in the UK having lead numerous cladding design, manufacture and installation projects. Ian is also fully NEEBOSH qualified.
